Another favourite of ours...

Paul Cézanne’s famous paintings of peasant card players have long been considered to be among his most iconic and powerful works.  Shown at the Courthauld Institute in early 2011, and now on show at the Met in NY, Richard Edward were honoured to be asked to produce a set of souvenier playing cards containing the card player series of paintings.

Another reason to support UK manufacturing!

Formaldehyde found in playing cards…

As a UK manufacturer of Playing Cards, we were shocked to read that the Republic of China (Taiwan) officials found that 20 percent of randomly picked playing cards manufactured in China, have tested for formaldehyde, a highly poisonous and cancerous agent to humans

The Chinese maximum tolerance for Formaldehyde in board is 75ppm**, however the European maximum standard is 30ppm.

The board that Richard Edward source for use in our playing card products meets the European standard (EN71). However, where this level exceeds client’s requirements, we are able to source Formaldehyde free board.

This reinforces the peace-of-mind, that use of UK manufacturers such as Richard Edward brings to the supply chain.

Richard Edward products are routinely audited to ensure compliance to EN71 standards in addition to social and environmental compliance.

**ppm – part per million = 1mg per 1kg

What is Formaldehyde?

A colourless poisonous gas; made by the oxidation of methanol used in manufacturing and chemical industries, and as a preservative by anatomists, embalmers and pathologists. Being exposed to formaldehyde may increase the risk of developing leukaemia and brain cancer.

The last few weeks have been hectic for Richard Edward, exhibiting at 4 different shows, meeting lots of people and launching new products!

We were delighted that so many card-based games were featured in Channel 4’s Top 100 Toys, announced on 10^th December.

Traditional card games are obviously still a hit with both adults and children, which is brilliant to see.
